What I Think
Out of the Dust by Karen Heese is a wonderfully written book.It is a about a girl who lives in the dust bowl and loses her mother at a young age and tries to cope with it.While her father refuses to talk with her about it. The dust storms also make life unbearable. After she burns her hands it is impossible for her to play the piano. The only thing that could possibly be her getaway or help her cope and get over her mother and baby brothers death.

Setting

The setting in this book is well described. It is in the midwest in the dust bowl on a farm. The main character Billie Jo is coping with the dust storms of the dust bowl. She describes them as billowing clouds of dust and really bad tasting "dust food".

Another Confict the Arose
Billie Jo vs. Louise
Billie Jo wants more than anything to like Louise but she really cant. She wants to be friends with Louise and she can and is. I think Louise is trying to be her friend and nothing else. I also believe that Louise is a little pushy. Billie Jo doesn't want for Louise to go to her mother and brother's grave. Louise wont take no for an answer.Deep down Louise wants to be Billie Jo's new mother but she wont admit it. This is what I think the conflict between Billie Jo and Louise is like.

Conflict that Rose
Billie Jo vs. The Dust
All Billie Jo wants to do is to get out of the dust. She hates it. She sometimes feels trapped by it . Like she can never get away from it.She loves her father but she hates the dust. If her father was gone she would move away from all ofthe dust. In the end she goes away from the dust for a while but then returns to her fatheer because she feels She needs to.
